If you just need basic data recovery and don’t want to recover a lot of files you can use our list of 5 free data recovery software 2024.

5 Free Data Recovery Software 2024

Recuva

The first software I can recommend is Recuva. For basic data recovery, Recuva is pretty good. It’s easy to use, good user interface and has a lot of advanced menus. But the most important thing is you are not limited in file size to be recovered (most of the free data recovery software limits you to recover no more than 2 GB files). So in my opinion of 5 free data recovery software in 2024, Recuva is in first place.
You can download Recuva from Piriform on their website. Recuva is available for Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8 / 8.1, Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Pros:

  • Simple and easy-to-use interface
  • Compatible with most Windows version
  • Support with most files
  • Options for advanced data recovery

Cons:

  • No Mac support
  • Infrequent update

Wise Data Recovery

Wise Data Recovery is another good data recovery software that you can use for free (although with limitations). Its intuitive user interface makes it easy to use, it also supports various files to recover.
Besides Wise Data Recovery I can recommend another software which is Wise Disk Cleaner to help you clean unused files in your disk thus speeding up your PC/laptop.
Wise Data Recovery is available for Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8 / 8.1, Windows 10, and Windows 11. You can download Wise Data Recovery here.

Pros:

  • Portable app available
  • Scan for deleted files rather quickly

Cons:

  • Recovery doesn’t retain the original folder structure
  • Only 2 GB of data recovery, you need to pay if you wish to recover more than 2 GB of data

EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard

EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard is another well-known data recovery solution. It works great on most Windows versions, good user interface along with easy to use making it one of the first options for beginners.
EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard is available for Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8 / 8.1, Windows 10, Windows 11, and macOS 12. Download is available from the EaseUS website here.

iCare Data Recovery Free

If you are looking for a truly free app to recover your deleted files without file limitation then I can recommend you to use iCare Data Recovery Free. You can recover files as much as you want without file and size restrictions.
iCare Data Recovery Free is available for Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8 / 8.1, Windows 10, and Windows 11. You can download iCare Data Recovery Free here.

Pros:

  • Truly free data recovery without size restrictions
  • Portable app available
  • Support file search and preview
  • Lots of file types supported (legend says it supports 800+ file types)

FreeUndelete

The last software recovery I can recommend is FreeUndelete. This app will help you recover your deleted files for free. This is a good app although with a pretty old user interface. Sadly FreeUndelete receives no update from its developer anymore.
You can download FreeUndelete from their website here. FreeUndelete is available only for Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Server 2008.

Pros:

  • Simple user interface
  • No size limitation, you can recover as much data as you want

Cons:

  • No updates available
  • Only support up to Windows 7
